Starters and Side Dishes for Thanksgiving Dinner

We'll be having Thanksgiving dinner at my parents' house in Mississippi this year.   My mom decided to go with a very traditional menu this year -- roast turkey, cornbread stuffing, spinach madeline and sweet potatoes with a brown sugar pecan topping.  She's also making a german chocolate cake for my kids.  By my last count, there will be fourteen of us, including six kids from ages 15 to 6.

Normally, I would have begun obsessing about what I'd contribute weeks ago, but the holiday has somehow sneaked up on me this year and I've yet to give it much thought.  If you're in the same boat, here are some suggestions for your holiday table.

Thanks -- I'm really wishing now that I had volunteered to make those creamy winter greens before my mom decided to make spinach madeline!
