The 23 Books I Read in 2009

I think I may be forgetting one or two, but as best as I recall, I've read 23 books this year. Memoir is heavily represented (6). A couple of the books, Having Our Say and Zorro, are book club picks that I would never have otherwise read, but am glad I did. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian is another book club pick that I would never have otherwise read, but I still can't decide whether I am glad I read it or not.

One of the books, Run, should be described as "Not Memorable" since I can't recall the story line. The books I have found myself recommending to friends include NurtureShock, The 19th Wife, Sarah's Key, and Zorro.

1. Happens Every Day: An All-Too-True Story

2. A Thousand Splendid Suns

3. NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children

4. Having Our Say: The Delany Sister's First 100 Years

5. Belong to Me: A Novel

6. The House at Sugar Beach: In Search of a Lost African Childhood

7. A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier

8. Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace... One School at a Time

9. The Condition: A Novel

10. Memory: A Novel

11. The Sum of Our Days: A Memoir

12. Sarah's Key: A Novel

13. The 19th Wife: A Novel

14. Flower Net: A Red Princess Mystery

15. Testimony: A Novel

16. Unaccustomed Earth

17. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian

18. Loving Frank: A Novel

19. American Wife

20. The Senator's Wife

21. Run: A Novel

22. Obedience: A Novel

23. Zorro

Wow, I know none of these books except a couple!

1/2 of my books every year are children's books.

Independent bookstores! I've got some reviews on FB visual bookshelf it you're interested.

I guess reading children's books would make it easier to get to 51 ;-)

since I buy most of my books at thrift stores I'm usually behind the times. Great list!

2006 there were a lot of children's books for me - Emma and Brian wanted me to read what they were reading. I only read them now for our mother/daughter book group.

I spend way too much on books. I bought most of these and then gave most of them away when I was done -- usually to my sisters.

Great list...really diverse!

I've read a few of them...Run is one of the ones I'll be mentioning on my still-being-finished-up list of audiobooks from this year. I liked it quite a bit, though.

I thought A Thousand Splendid was painful but good, and that The 19th Wife was a little bit much, but I'm glad I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I don't remembering disliking Run, I just don't remember the story line! I can tell the story lines of all her other books which I read years ago.
