NaBloPoMo, day one

Today is Day One of NaBloPoMo! I’m going to try to blog every day during the month of November. Hopefully I’ll be able to come up with something at least mildly interesting to write about… In defiance of Glen Beck, I am going to start having Meatless Mondays so I’ll be blogging about that. I also signed up to participate in the Dark Days Challenge beginning on November 15th. The challenge is to make one meal a month that focuses on SOLE (sustainable, organic, local, ethical) ingredients and blog about it. If our Farmer’s Market were still open, this would not be a big deal at all. Unfortunately, yesterday was the last regular market. That should make things interesting.

We went on a late morning today hike with friends visiting from SC. We hiked what DH swears is about a 1-mile section of the Tanawha Trail. My friend and I have our doubts that it is that short given that it took us over two hours and didn’t make that many stops [update: I just looked at this map and the section we hiked was 2.6, not 1, miles (which apparently B-the-reluctant-hiker pointed out to DH after he saw trail sign at the trail head)]. We hiked from the visitor’s center just after the Viaduct to the Rough Ridge parking area on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It rained off and on all weekend so the trail was a mud pit. It was a test of skill and agility to hop from rock to rock in an effort to keep shoes dry! Today was not a particularly nice day – overcast, cool, and foggy in the higher elevations – and the leaves are all gone, but I knew my friend would appreciate what a great kid hike it was. I have pictures I’d like to post but the only way I know how to get pictures from my iphone to the blog is via Facebook, and the Facebook ap on the phone is not cooperating…

I look forward to your meatless Mondays! Haven't decided if I'm up for the Dark Days challenge...though it wouldn't be hard where I live!
